Rookies Taking Over Older Football Players Positions

May 2015

Just like spring cleaning, each NFL team needs to clean house and strengthen their team, which is why we have the Draft. This means that the older football players will have to start watching out for their positions as the start of the season is getting closer. Rookies will always have something to prove, especially if they were selected specifically to take over for a well-respected player.
A few of the players that were picked up during the 2015 Draft that were selected to replace someone on the team would include:
POS |
Rookie |
Player Being Replaced |
Team |
DL |
Owamagbe Odighizuwa | Cullen Jenkins | New York Giants |
RB |
Tevin Coleman | Devonta Freeman | Atlanta Falcons |
OLB |
Alvin “Bud” Dupree | Jarvis Jones | Pittsburgh Steelers |
RB |
Todd Gurley | Tre Mason | St. Louis Rams |
DE |
Randy Gregory | Jeremy Mincey | Dallas Cowboys |
DL |
Leonard Williams | Muhammad Wilkerson | New York Jets |
RB |
David Johnson | Andre Ellington | Arizona Cardinals |
It is always great so see how players react when their position is in jeopardy, and we usually get to see great things during their final seasons. Rookies may be fresh, but some lack the experience that older football players have, so we may not see as many replacements this coming season, but rather in a few years.
